2006 Scuba Diving in the Red Sea

In June 2006 my wife and I did a wonderful scuba diving safari boat cruise through the Red Sea.
In Marsa Alam we boarded the Emperor Majesty on Thursday, June 1st, evening, stayed in the harbour over night and started our tour next morning. First stop was for the check dive at a reef very close to Marsa Alam before our journey continued to the southern part of the Red Sea.

During the next six days the boat took us from one nice reef to the next for unforgettable diving experiences. Besides the beautiful corals in the Red Sea we have been able to meet with Green Sea Turtles,  Longimanus Sharks,  Napoleon Fish and a lot of other inhabitants of the underwater world.

Longimanus shark in the Red SeaThis Longimanus Shark actually could be best seen from the boat. He was not much impressed when we got into the water for diving.

We got comfortable two bed cabins on the boat with even a small bathroom, the cook was preparing excellent meals three times a day and the dive guides did an excellent job to plan and organize the tour, held the briefings and guide us under water. The typical agenda for the day was: wakeup a 6:00 am for the early morning dive, briefing, dive, breakfast, some rest, briefing, dive, lunch, some rest, briefing, dive, dinner, some rest, briefing, night dive, sleep. My wife and I did not do the night dives so we had maximum three dives per day, some days we skipped a dive to get some more rest and ensure the vacation was not getting too busy.
The atmosphere on board was very nice with our group of 20 divers from our Mainzer dive group and the crew consisting of 10 people did an excellent job to keep the boat running, fill up our bottles, support us to get into and out of the water and make life on board as relaxing as possible. So - going diving from a boat turned out to be a very nice and relaxing experience and I am looking forward to do such a trip again, hopefully next year already.
